This picture shows the pupa of a male Chelorrhina savagei. The previously opaque yellow colored skin of the pupa becomes transparent. Now the beetle will soon emerge.

Die folgenden Bilder zeigen die Entwicklung eines Männchens von Stephanorrhina guttata. Normalerweise sind diese Vorgänge nicht sichtbar, weil sie sich im Innern des Kokons abspielen. Für die Fotos habe ich den Kokon geöffnet.

The following pictures show the development of a male of Stephanorrhina guttata. Normally you cannot see these proceedings because they happen hidden in the cocoon. I opened the cocoon to shoot the pictures.

Frisch geschlüpft liegt der Käfer im Kokon. Sein Panzer ist noch weich und farblos.

The beetle cracked its pupa and lies in the cocoon. The exosceleton is still soft and colorless.

Die Flügel sind noch nicht gefaltet. Über dem Kopf liegt immer noch die Puppenhaut.

The wings are not folded yet. The head is still covered with the skin of the pupa.

Die Flügel sind eingfaltet. Die Deckflügel sind schon wesentlich dunkler und die weissen Flecken sind erkennbar.

The wings are folded. The elytra are already darker and you can see the white spots on them.

Fertig ausgefärbte Käfer. Der Panzer ist ausgehärtet und die Tiere sind voll beweglich und flugfähig.

Fully colored adult beetles. The exosceleton is completely hardened and the beetles are now ready to crawl around and fly.
